Stormwater Management

Any addition of non permeable surfaces will incur issues with rainwater management. This is usually based on the % of land covered in non permeable surfacing.

• Underground basin may be an option
• Keeping parking lot permeable (e.g. gravel) cuts down on % covered
• Routing gutters to rain garden may cut down on basin size needed
• Green roof may reduce basin size
  • Green roof increases roof load, installation + maintenance costs
  • Provides passive cooling in summer, potentially recouping installation costs in 6 years
  • May require irrigation for max cooling
  • Possible tax credits depending on municipality
